Session 1:

Science on a Sphere

with Kelly Trujillo, PhD, School of Sciences, Health Engineering and Math

Science on a Sphere ®  (SOS)  is a room-sized, global display system that projects images of atmospheric storms, climate change, and ocean temperature onto a six-foot diameter sphere. Come experience Earth like you have never seen it before.

NM History

with Steve Martinez, PhD, Dean of Liberal Arts

This class will cover an introduction to the history of New Mexico from the pre-Columbian times to the present day. The elements of this course are designed to inform on the major events and trends that are essential in the understanding of the development of New Mexico within the context of the Americas.

Stretch Class

with Rachel Weber, Instructor

During the 30 minute class we will do a warm-up, routine, and a cool down. This will be a guided full body self-stretch with bands.  Make sure to wear comfortable clothing!

Art on Campus

Art on Campus is responsible for the college’s vast art collection. Its mission is to ensure the educational, cultural and artistic experience of students, employees and visitors through exposure to the arts. The college exhibits an impressive art collection that greets the eye – indoors and out– with museum-quality artwork in various media by acclaimed artists.

Session 2:

Tin Work Picture Frame

with Richard Gabriel

The art of tinwork has been practiced in many parts of the country. New Mexican tinwork has a unique style influenced by generations of craftspeople. Award winning Spanish market artist Richard Gabriel introduces you to the tools used in traditional New Mexican tin work. Learn punching, cutting, and embossing techniques, while working from start to finish on your own picture frame.

Automotive Technology

with Julia Furry, MBA, Director of Automotive Technologies

SFCC’s Automotive Technologies Program is a one-stop shop for everything you need to become an automotive technician. All classes are taught by ASE Certified Technicians in a real-life instructional atmosphere that will aid your knowledge skills and understanding of an automotive repair business.

Pickleball

with Vlad King, Instructor

We will spend 15 minutes going over the basic rules. This includes court positioning, where to stand, and equipment (paddles, balls to use, shoes to wear, and eye protection). The next 30 minutes will be hands on. We will work on strokes used in pickleball like forehand, backhand, serves, dinks, and lobs.

This class requires participants to sign a waiver.

Printmaking & Book Art

Spend the afternoon learning how to make your own book art! This class teaches you the fundamentals of printmaking and book art that can be transferred to larger projects.
